Illinois

Illinois’ history is marked by four eras—the pre-Columbian period, the European exploration and colonization period, the American frontier period, and the industrial period, where it grew into one of the most economically powerful states in the U.S. During this final and most recent era, impressive and inspiring architecture started to show up around Illinois. In our collection, you’ll see original hand-colored antique architectural plans and prints, gelatines, lithographs, and photogravures of houses, churches, and buildings in Illinois. One can see the range of building activity taking place in the state.  Famous architects, such as Peabody, Stearns, Mead, White and Knox are featured in this collection.
