Portico to the House of Edward Carrington, Williams Street, Providence, RI
From the American Architect and Building News, November 2, 1889. 12.25 by 16 inches (with border). VG+.
The Edward Carrington House is an outstanding building that was built in 1810. Edward Carrington was a wealthy Providence merchant who purchased the house from its original builder, John Corliss. The house then stayed in the Carrington family for three generations. A family member donated the house in 1936 to the Rhode Island School of Design's Museum of Art. It returned to a private home in 1961 and remains so today. It is considered one of Providence's greatest architectural monuments. This picture is extremely hard to find. The American Architect and Building News had a very small circulation during this time and these original prints only appeared in a very limited number of issues that were distributed to a few prominent architects. Has a mat border and foam core backing (not attached to the picture). The whole picture measures approx. 12.25 by 16 inches (with border). Extraordinary detail in this early photographic print.
