Residence for Mrs. C. A. Plimpton , Cincinnati, OH
Buddemeyer, Plympton & Trowbridge, architect(s). From the American Architect and Building News, August 13, 1887. 13.25 by 8.75 inches. VG+ condition with light browning along the edges.
No pottery work done in Cincinnati seems more individual than that of Mrs. C. A. Plimpton, in the common clays of Ohio. Her artistic taste early led her to see the adaptability of these soft clays to decorative uses. Her processes consisted in inlaying contrasting colors in the green clay, in relief work in a variety of shades of clay, and of pate-sur-pate, or ship decoration, in landscape and other effects, ranging in color from dark-brown clays, through the reds, to yellow and white. Hand-colored Original Plan. This picture is extremely hard to find, as the American Architect and Building News not only had a very small circulation during that time, but very few were actually preserved or colored as this has been. It measures 13.25 by 8.75 inches. Has a mat border and foam core backing (not attached to the picture). The whole plan measures approximately 15.5 by 11.5 inches (with mat border). Finely detailed and beautifully hand-colored. Shrink wrapped.
